FAQs

What is the difference between a Foot Health Professional and a Podiatrist?

Foot Health Professionals have studied for a diploma in foot health and are able to treat common foot problems from corns and callus to thickened or fungal nails. They are not HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registered but may be members of a register which requires them to undertake regular CPD. I am a Foot Health Professional.

A Podiatrist (or Chiropodist) is qualified to diagnose and treat more complex cases of foot and lower leg problems that require more specialist support. Examples include making custom orthoses or performing nail surgery under local anaesthetic. They are HCPC registered.

What should I expect from my first appointment?

After taking a medical history I will do a neurovascular assessment, to check the sensation and blood flow in your feet, before taking a good look at your feet and discussing any concerns you may have. I will explain my planned treatment before treating your feet (e.g. corn removal, nail trimming or callus reduction) with your consent. I will give you advice and recommendations on foot care and footwear.

How often should I get my feet treated?

Everyone has individual needs but it is usually advisable to have appointments at 6 to 8-week intervals.

What area do you cover?

I cover Thorverton, Silverton, Rewe, Stoke Canon, Brampford Speke, Upton Pyne, Cowley, Newton St. Cyres and other nearby villages north of Exeter. If you are not sure if I cover your area please do give me a call, email or send me a message to ask.

Do you have a clinic I can come to for appointments?

At present I only offer home visits.
